Ancient Kamiros

Lindos, Ialyssos and Ancient Kamiros were the three ancient cities of the island. Kamiros was an important commercial center from the Archaic to the Hellenistic Age. It was the most conservative of the three cities and the local economy was mainly based on agriculture.

The city was discovered in 1929 during excavations that took place in the region. It is built on a slope without fortifications and without a citadel. Nowadays, in the archaeological site you will see the remains of Kamiros: houses and parts of buildings, the ancient Agora, the Doric temple and a few arches, the Hellenistic Mosque, the main street of the town, the remains of the aqueduct and remains of the temple of Athena.
